Seems like lots of the poly people are going in NS pretty much soon this year. Some tips to you guys here! For the remaining time that you have left, treasure it. Otherwise, i won't be really writing all these bullshit here with a little regret. Go learn something! I wasted the few months of freedom playing computer games, PS2 and staying alone to sleep and stuff. And ,of course , going out with friends occassionally which i found to be much more meaningfully then staring at the STUPID screen. Would recommend you to go do stuff that invovles self-improment and stuff like riding and riding and maybe more riding. Go try new stuff! There's confirm some thingy you have never tried till now!
Now on the day of enlistment... Ahh, feeling strange? Reluctant to get enlisted? You will probably see some DJs from Power 98FM, urging you guys to make dedications to your loved ones and friends... blah blah.. Then maybe you will board the ferry, if you are posted to tekong, and set sail to some island which i considered a playground after going through SISPEC. =P At the preparation for some weird 'swearing' ceremony, you would be a kuai kuai rec to say 'yes sir' loudly and with feeling to the guy that recieved you, who is probably your company sergeant major. He will rehearse you guys and then bring you to a bloody big auditorium to SWEAR! wahahhaa... after the whole thingy have lunch or dinner with your parents and say 'bye bye' to your loved ones and 'hello!' your sergeants. Maybe by this time you would be amazed by how organised is the way they managed it.
BAck in bunk, haha! Go make friends! It's your ultimate survival skill there... There should be some from those uniform groups, you can ask them with you need help and stuff. I'm from ODAC so i roughly know how the hell to get along with all the tough training and stuff. And the sergeants and the assholes officers might play with you and stuff, so yeah. Just know that you have to have 7 hours of sleep and stuff... All according to the holy book of TSR. Which i think you can read online at mindef? Nah, i think it's restricted... just know that it's some thick book. You will be more into it if you get into SISPEC. Any problems just go tell your section commanders, they are trained to help you. If you find them incompetent, well they are in real civilian life too. Your main motivation would be from each other and no one else. If your lucky, maybe good motivation from your section commanders. And yeah, those whose commanders are named Nicholas, Derek, Collin, tell me! I might know them! =P So mostly BMT sergeants would talk cock with you after training. Well cut it short if you want more admin time which is equals to free time. =P And yeah, ask for permission to carry on when you
knock it down! MUahaha...
By near the ending of your BMT, you might realise that everyone would not be shouting as loud and with feeling as on the first day. Haha, adaptation comes in here. Now you have familiarised yourself with the regimental stuff, and you think that you are king? lol, maintain your self discipline so you don't your arse screwed.
POP! haha, some parade which you can call your parents to come and pass out! WEEE~! The main challenge is to keep still and maintain yer concentration. Just breathe deeply in and out through your mouths... When there's wind, breathe it in! And move your toes or anything movable that can't be seen. If you're skilled enough, move your fingers too. Drink lots of water! plus i almost fell out once. My vision slowly became grey to black... at that stage, most would just drop... I didn't... I knew that i blacked out, but i can still feel my body.. so i controlled... Then command giving to move, so my vision slowly came back... wahha... only if you concentrate well. Then say hello to your loved ones and one week of leave! that's all for bmt...
If you get posted to unit, haha! Welcome to the status of the lowest lifeform in your unit!
Sispec is fun! now it's called BSC, Basic Section course... different from mine... and it's from here where the better or the 'wayang' ones get selected to go for OCS, officers' cadet school or old clown school. Here is where you truely see people in your whole life to show off at the right moment and slacken off when the commanders are not watching. Some have true leadership skills so they are natural... hehe, most probably the JC people are the ones that fight for the OCS candidates... wahaha... I had this selection in BMT... you'll have your selection fight here. Even if they wayang all the way from bmt to here, some of the characters are imbued in them liao... so they might have improved themselves with leadership quanlities... And have fun here! I had more fun here than my BMT or present days in unit...
Graduated as a small fry commander! maybe you get posted to OCS or ASC advanced section course or unit, my congrats to you! I went to a unit.... then you might get to see the internal runnings isn't as smooth as you thought. Internal conflicts fly around, admin inefficiency, slackers, 'tai chi' masters. Signing of extras = more duties as punishment. If your unit is efficent, man you are blessed! If not, you can't really trust the words they say to you. And yeah, be ready for instantaneous change of instructions or expect the unexpected... iShuffle's lingo: Enjoy Uncertainty. Ironically, you don't want to... haha
Typed so much liao.... haiz... Last tip, if you wanna learn driving, learning it when you get into a unit.. then continously ask for off to take the lessons... this would help increase the time spent outside camp. =) hah!
NS would train you in certain life skills... which i might talk about it another time..... later!
